Mooncakes, Lanterns, and Togetherness: Bringing Our Nineteeners Together for the Mid-Autumn Festival

Mooncakes, Lanterns, and Togetherness: Bringing Our Nineteeners Together for the Mid-Autumn Festival
Mid-Autumn Festival Celebrations

The Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节 Zhōngqiū Jié in Chinese, Chuseok in Korean, Tsukimi in Japanese, Tết Trung Thu in Vietnamese) is a traditional harvest festival celebrated widely across East and Southeast Asia. It typically falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, usually between mid-September and early October. During this time, the moon is believed to be at its fullest and brightest, symbolising reunion, unity, and gratitude.

The festival is known for its iconic imagery: round mooncakes representing the full moon, glowing red lanterns lighting up the night sky, and the beloved Moon Rabbit, a mythological creature said to live on the moon. It's a celebration steeped in tradition and culture!

Team Virtual hangout

Our Hong Kong and Singapore offices embraced this spirit of togetherness with their very own Mid-Autumn celebration, bringing together our APAC Nineteeners for an afternoon of connection. And of course, no festival would be complete without traditional mooncakes (the custard ones were a definite favourite!) enjoyed alongside plenty of laughter and conversation!

The event began with lighthearted introductions before Michael Wong from our Hong Kong office led a series of fun icebreaker games designed to help everyone get to know each other better. The questions sparked plenty of smiles and playful debate:

“Who is most likely to brighten the room with their smile?”
“Who is most likely to be caught daydreaming about lunch?”
“Who is the loudest keyboard typer?” (we're looking at you, Michael...!👀😂)

Teams were also challenged to capture the unique vibe that makes their office special with just five emojis! After a couple of minutes thought, the results brought about some confused faces, interesting anecdotes, and plenty of laughter! 🌕🏮😋🐰🩵

It was a wonderful opportunity for our colleagues across Hong Kong and Singapore to connect, share traditions, and celebrate what makes each of our teams unique.

A huge thank you to Michael Wong (Hong Kong) and Ping Ping Lau (Singapore) for organising this fantastic event. From mooncakes to meaningful connections, the Mid-Autumn Festival captured everything we value at Nineteen: being Kind and Inclusive, and above all, fostering that OneNineteen spirit wherever we are in the world.
